Day 3 after wisdom teeth removal

Day three after having my wisdom teeth removed hasn’t been too bad, but it certainly hasn’t been enjoyable by any means. A few notes:

  • I awoke with gigantic chipmunk cheeks. Regular icepacks have helped the pain and soreness, but the swelling is still pretty bad. No bruising, however.
  • I’m not sure why, but my stitches have enough slack for me to practically go fishing with. I could actually eat a wider variety of things if I didn’t have to worry about bits of food getting wrapped up in my fishing wire. If I were braver I’d snip some of the slack off, but considering I’ve been on hydrocodone, that’s probably not a good idea.
  • For those who are in a similar situation, I’ve found “Chicken and Stars” to be quite edible; practically no chewing required! Chicken and noodles was a total flop, due to the noodles doing battle with my stitches.
  • Related to my eating options: it’s true. Take any food you love – eat it enough, and you’ll start to hate it. By the time I’m healed up, I may avoid pudding, mashed potatoes, and soup for quite some time. I’m even getting sick of ice cream, which I previously thought to be an impossibility.

And now, time for some more quality time with my icepack.

I removed 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth when I was 17, to make way for my braces. I barely talked at home, my younger sister kept bringing me gauze and cold water and she kept asking if I was alright because I looked like a monkey with a banana in my bleeding mouth, LOL.

And both times, the stitches came out by themselves and I think I swallowed them too!

I haven’t had too much trouble talking, and my bleeding was done in 5 or 6 hours. My wife discovered that I’d taken some pictures inside my mouth right after we got on the road from the oral surgeon’s place, while I was still out of it. Talk about nasty!

My noticed a couple days ago after rinsing my mouth that my stitches were gone. I can only assume I swallowed them, as I certainly didn’t remove them from my mouth any other way. :)
