A Foul Weekend, Indeed.

Is it just me, or do other folks also seem to always get sick on the weekends? Especially long weekends.

This past weekend was a 3-day one for me; the university was closed on Monday due to Veteran’s Day. And yes – I’m well aware that Veteran’s Day actually fell on the 11th, and Monday was the 12th, but who am I to argue with a vacation day?

It being a 3-day weekend, Saturday morning was the day that Sickness chose to fall upon me. Friday, I felt fine; even Friday evening, I good, wonderful even. Not a sign of feeling bad at all; I was ready for a long, productive, and enjoyable weekend. Then Saturday morning rolled around, and I felt horrible. I won’t get into the less than savory details, but let’s just say that there was much praying to the Porcelain Gods. When I wasn’t praying to those mighty powers, I was laying on the couch feeling like praying to them.

Due to all of the praying, I had a real splitter of a headache, and so I was in no shape to read. The weekend would have been salvageable if I’d been able to read; I could have gone through a huge chunk of Stephen King’s The Stand, maybe even finished it. But alas, no; there was to be no reading. Just laying and feeling icky.

I ended up getting back to normal Monday afternoon, which gave me just enough time to hurry and do the stuff I had needed to do over the weekend. Then it was off to bed, so as to be ready to leap back into The Grind on Tuesday morning. So much for my “long, productive, and enjoyable” weekend.

Random stomach bug, I have but one thing to say to you: frak you.

That sucks mate. Glad to hear you’re better though. Sometimes we need a kick in the rear to make us appreciative.

You’re just like my husband, he’s getting ill when it’s some kind vacation, like Christmas.

I just get ill when there’s really no time; I’ve been actually up with the flue for three days trying to write a paper for school. Now it’s probably going to turn into Sunday fun..

@Tom: Yeah, we do need a kick in the rear to make us be appreciative. :) That’s a good way to look at it.

@zhayena: Exactly! I get sick on long weekends and vacations. It’s a right bummer.

Sorry to hear you have (had?) the flu. I’m currently rather edgy about the flu in general; I’m about half way through Stephen King’s “The Stand”, which is about a super flu that wipes out 99% of the world’s population.

    Creepy creepy.

I’m almost well, but maybe it’s a good thing I’m “antisocial” person sitting home by the computer all day, so 99% of all others can be very safe ;-)

But being ill really start you think of everything you take for granted, like the taste of food.

Yeah, being an introvert has its perks when it comes to being sick. I’m fine with being sick and being stuck in the house, as long as I feel well enough to read and use the computer. :D

Regarding the taste of food: that’s something that I’ve never had a problem with. A cold, a flu, whatever – my ability to taste things has never been altered much. Thankfully, I might add!
