Alas - Hooked to Harry Potter!

Well, it happened. It was tentative for a brief period of time, when I had only reread the first Potter book. Now, however, it’s done. I suppose one could say that the spell has been successfully cast.

I’m hooked to Harry Potter.

I finished reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets tonight, and I’ve already started the third, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. These silly books have drawn me in, and won’t let go.

It’s really quite funny, because before I really gave them a fair chance, I constantly poked fun at them. “Hah, they’re just kids’ books - not worthy of my time!” So much for that mindset. Damned books. I can’t put them down!

I’ll have a lengthier post up soon, tomorrow (if the third book allows me to blog anymore), about the Chamber of Secrets. For now - back to Potter! Why, in the two hours before I go to bed, I could read at least 100 or so pages.

I’m having the same ‘problem’. Just have to read one more chapter before I go to bed. And another one, and another one..

The 31st was Harry’s birthday, you know. And yet it’s _he_ who’s giving _you_ a gift, valiantly fighting against the large “52 books in 52 weeks” deficit you’ve ended up in. For shame.

zhayena - Yeah. They’re like crack in book form, I swear.

Joshua - I know. :( I really thought I could pull it off, but clearly, it’s just not going to happen. I’m not sure where I went wrong. Probably a mixture of trying to read multiple books simultaneously, along with choosing titles that were a) two long or b) too ambitious. Some things just aren’t meant to be read in a week’s time, I suppose.

The good side, however, is that while I’ve fallen way behind, I have read way more books this year than I would have, if I hadn’t tried the 52 in 52 thing.

I currently try to read book five very slow, as I’m missing book 6 and 7, and I’m reading them in Norwegian, and the last one, in Norwegian that is, probably won’t be here until Christmas or so..

I’m not sure what to do in the meantime..

Let me just say: Hah, hah!

(I wonder if you make it to number 7 until your birthday :-) )

zhayena: Ouch. Book 7 not available until Christmas.

Zeitlos: I know, I know. I have it coming.

But no, there’s no way I’ll be on book 7 in 10 days!

Read faster. :P

Book 3- Aug 1 and 2
Book 4- Aug 3 and 4
Book 5- Aug 5 and 6
Book 6- Aug 7 and 8
Book 7- Aug 9 and 10

You see, by my schedule, you would be DONE book 7 before your birthday.

I could do it, hands down, and you know it. :P

@Fig: Yes, that was my calculation too. :-)
None of the books lastet longer than 2 days to read.

Ah, yes, but you two are, I think, assuming I’m only reading one book - something I have finally given up on. I’m currently reading:

The Pale Horseman (Cornwell)
Potter book 3 (I don’t suppose there’s any reason for me to list the author…)
The Immortal Game (Shenk)

The Stand by King is also on my list, but it hasn’t made it off the shelf for a few weeks. Still going to read it though!

Pfft. Show off. Concentrate on one book at a time. Just because there are lots of books to read, does not mean they should be read all at the same time. :P

I can’t help it. Seriously. I don’t know how many times I’ve told myself I’m only going to read one book at a time, but it never pans out. I always end up succumbing to, “Oh, well, I could read that alongside this..”

Rinse and repeat.

Oh, and by the way: I’m done with The Immortal Game now. :P

The trick is to make a cup of coffe, grab some cookies and find a nice place to lay yourself down, put your nose into the HP book and schwuppdidupp: the whole weekend passes by in a second.

The Immortal Game… sounds more like a Highlander spinoff than something about chess.
