I never learnt to play properly. I studied it on my own when I was twelve or so, but no one I knew wanted to play. When I finally met people who played in pubs, they were already so far ahead that it just never was fun for me. I only realized years later that I lived a couple of houses from one of the better chess clubs in my country at the time. Dang.

Have you seen this one, btw?

I've run into the same problem: I like playing chess, but most of my friends just aren't into it. There is, of course, also the problem of finding a good 1-2 hours to sit down and play a game. Online correspondence chess solves that problem nicely.

Yeah, they're down at the moment. I just spoke to one of the fellows who works on it; they expect it to be back up tomorrow probably. Something about the communication server having a bug they can't figure out. For the time being, I'm playing on Red Hot Pawn. It's not as, ahem, "web 2.0"-ey as 64squar.es, but.. well, it works and that's what counts.

Also.. haha. Yes. The flood of traffic I sent them crippled their servers.

I must be an A-lister or something now.

I've been looking for a good Chess site lately. Haven't played in way too long. (I prefer playing live, but that's not an option when your friends tend not to like chess.) Thanks for the recommendation.

By the way, just checked out 64squar.es: "64squar.es down for maintenence. Apologies. Check back soon." Dude, you've made them upgrade their servers! Congrats are in order?
