I think you had enough of good reasons why to study Russian. I am, same as you, a foreign language geek and I started to study Russian after I heard it somewhere on TV and thought: “this language sounds good”.

Anyway, I wish you good luck with Russian. I know that the beginning is terrible - all this sounds, letters and completely different grammar… but as you start thinking in Russian it gets much easier.

And that was only a few years ago. The soviet sacrifice was massive and unimaginable. It's strange how we don't hear much about that in books or films. If you can find it, you should watch <i>Idi i Smotri</i> by Elem Klimov, though: it's awesome. Not having a real reason isn't a bad thing — not everything needs implementing in jobs or careers.
