I was just sitting here, reading my feeds in Google Reader and drinking my typical morning cup of coffee with French Vanilla creamer, when I heard something that I hadn’t heard in quite a while: birds chirping. It really is a welcomed sound. It’s something quite simple – it happens every spring – but after not hearing it hardly at all during the winter months, it’s quite nice to hear. That spring is quickly on its way lifts my spirits quite a bit, because truth be told, I’ve been getting mighty tired of the cold darkness of winter.
It’s sunny outside right now, not a cloud in the sky. Of course, this is a bit deceptive, because it’s still not warm out there – weather.com says that the temperature here is hovering around 30F – but that it’s sunny is a start. Yesterday the sun was able to heat things up to around 55F, which is the warmest it’s been here for quite a while. With the raising temperatures, all of the yucky snow that had accumulated melted away. Before long there will be bits of green poking out. I feel like a bit of a treehugger* saying this, but I’m extremely happy about all of this. The longer winter went on, the more of an emotional slump I fell into.
* I don’t have anything at all against treehuggers, I’ve just never really seen myself as one.
