Grrr. I don’t know what the deal is the past few days on my blog, but I’ve been getting hammered by spam, particularly spam trackbacks. Akismet has done an amazing job up to this point catching all of it; why it’s getting through now, I have no idea. I just had to go through and manually delete about 35 spam trackbacks. Bleh.
For the time being I’ve disabled trackbacks on my blog. I don’t really know what else to do about it at the moment.

I haven’t heard or read anything about it, and I’m on WordPress.com, not privately hosted, but I have in fact had quite a few spam comments slip through last week. Nothing major, but still. They go into moderation, though, since I set my preferences to ‘commenter must have previously approved comment. Those spammers seem to keep trying to circumvent Akismet, but eventually it always recovers. Up to now, at least. Will it ever end?

Nils: I didn’t realize that setting was available. I just set my blog up to use it as well. At least that way the trackbacks will never actually hit the public eye.

I got the same experience: really hit by spam comments that akismet didn’t catch. No idea.

Yeah we had some downtime on the Akismet servers, we’re upgrading them to fix it.

I have been experiencing problems with Akismet too. Thank god I require that all commentors be pre-approved by me.
