Today was the Thanksgiving dinner at the church my mom attends. Me, my wife, my mom, and my son were all there. The dinner was put on by a variety of churches, and the church my mom attends was the one that was actually hosting the dinner. Everyone was welcome. All of the work involved (along with the money for all of the food) was provided by volunteers. All of the food that was served was free.
We were sitting at a table with a couple of other people, who quite honestly looked like rather unsavory types. As we were all sitting there eating, the lady of the couple said, “This is a joke. I’ve been waiting for 25 minutes for my to-go dinner, I shouldn’t have to wait this longer. They probably forgot me.” She sighed, clearly annoyed.
Free food. Free service. Anyone welcome. All of the work provided by volunteers. And this lady has the nerve to complain about having to wait a little bit for a to-go order, even though she’s already cleaned up a whole plate of food. I’d be willing to bet that the to-go order wasn’t for a family member, either: I’d say it was so she could have dinner for free this evening, too.
