They took my comics!

I picked up last Sunday’s comics from the newspaper a few days ago, and had that feeling of “something’s a bit off here…” The Sunday comics title at the top of the page seemed different. Oh well, I thought. No big deal. It’s just a logo. Then I dropped down to the first comic, and was taken aback a bit more. The comic that has been in the top spot for as long as I can remember was gone. Hrm.. okay, so they changed that comic. No big deal… Then I looked at the rest of the comics, and discovered that they had changed the entire line-up of comics. Completely. None of the comics I’ve been reading for years now were present.

I’m not a huge comic fan, so it wasn’t a big deal, but it did strike me as a bit odd. Just out of nowhere, poof, the old comics were gone, replaced with different ones. (I’m happy to report, though, that we now get Wizard of Id.) The oddity doesn’t really end there, though. Today when I checked out the comics in the paper, the oddness increased. In the weekday papers, apparently we still have the old comics. So, we now get one set of comics Monday through Saturday, and then a totally different set on Sunday, but the full set of neither.

Do other newspapers do this, or has the local paper gone a bit loopy?

I don’t know if your newspaper has gone loopy. But I do know that there are countries with no comics at all in the local NEWSpaper.

We do get some changes in our local paper from time to time; but they announce it BIG when they do. These people know they shouldn’t mess with the comics.

Zeitlos: lol. Hey, hey. The comics are a very important part of our newspapers. :P
Kristin: Yeah, they should know better. :|

I know :-) The local newspaper here in Bochum has two or three comics either - like Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts - just the classics (off topic: either or too?)
But e.g. the paper in cologne, which my parents read, doesn’t have any comics at all. They have an extra magazine in their newspaper everyday with Sudokus, Recipes, Music/Cinema tips and TV programme.

In that sentence, it should be “too”, i.e.
The local newspaper here in Bochum has two or three comics too.

I wish our local newspaper had an extra magazine like that. That sounds pretty cool.

They’ve recently made some changes to our local papers as well, but the changes were announced, they even gave people a chance to vote on some of the new comics. Most of the “preferred” ones are still around, thankfully.

*grumble grumble*
