I made a Note over at 9rules asking what games people keep returning to. I wondered because while I’ve played lots of different games over the years, there have been a few that I’ve returned to over and over again*. One of the responses was from Eric Shepard, who mentioned Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64. This reminded me of the fact that I picked up a used 64 solely to check out Ocarina of Time (but I did get a few other games). I played Ocarina for a while, and then just kind of… stopped. There wasn’t any particular reason – I just stopped playing it. This was some time ago, probably at least a year ago, and most likely much longer.
Eric’s mentioning of it made me want to dig it out and give it another spin, so I started looking for my N64 stuff. I checked a few closets; some boxes with various ‘stuffs’ in them; and finally, some storage bins. Tada! Sort of, anyway… In the storage bin, I found:
- Zelda: Majora’s Mask (not Ocarina of Time)
- The N64 console itself
- Mario 64
- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
What I did not find was:
- Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- A controller for the N64
I am not amused.
This makes absolutely no sense to me. When I packed up all of my N64 stuff, I know I would have put it all together. I can’t imagine going, “ah, let’s put 3/4 of this stuff.. here, and then put the rest somewhere completely different.” I’m not overly organized, but I’m not purposely unorganized either!
I’ve looked in many more places for the Ocarina cartridge and a controller. Drawers, cabinets, computer desk storage areas… No luck. Perhaps it was mischevious Hobbit Vikings. They’re small enough to sneak in, raid my gaming goods, and get back out. I don’t understand why they’d just take a game cart and a controller, but I’m not a Hobbit**, either, so…
* For me, the games I’ve returned to at least once are: Baldur’s Gate 2, Civilization IV, Half Life, Starcraft, and Half Life 2.
** At least not 100% Hobbit. My feet are rather reminiscent of Hobbit feet, just not quite so hideous…
Strange coincidence. With my new A/V setup I was trying out various games to check out the difference made, and I thought The Wind Waker would be a good one to check out for its cel-shaded look. However… I did not find it. I’ve got its CASE, which is on the shelf, but it was in a minidisc snap case along with a set of others, but it’s not with them. Bah.
Heh. That IS a weird coincidence. Best of luck in finding it.
No clue where it might be.
But hey, at very worst I’m sure I can find a replacement for a dozen bucks or so. And Twilight Princess should sate my Zelda fix for a while, though without Wind Waker’s funky awesome look.
I’ve still got BG2 to play. Not exactly Zelda (at all), but ah well.
Your best bet is the Gamecube version which, of course, can be played on the Wii as well. That game is so good, it has spanned 3 generations of consoles.
Oh, and thanks for the reference!
Yeah, it’s a great game. I don’t know if I can bring myself to buy a console that is pronounced “wee” though.
