What about your ideal setup, if you were going to "set up camp" for an extended period of time? The giant, cozy library would be my place, definitely. I'd be up for staying in any of those other places for an extended period of time, too, particularly Germany. 6 months to a year would be great; plenty of time to get some confidence in my spoken German. It's partly because of the FOOD (I'm a hungry monster *lol*) and partly because it's nearby if I need to go home visiting family... I guess though that it would be Greece, Spain or Italy for me. It’s partly because of the FOOD (I’m a hungry monster *lol*) and partly because it’s nearby if I need to go home visiting family…

Autumn and Spring now.. fabulous. I totally agree with you about New Zealand. My sister went unfortunately before the trilogy was filmed and she really did have a good time there.Very outdoorsy and sporty. I'm not so sure I'd want to visit the film sites; that may spoil things. Just seeing some of the "making of.." spoilt it a bit for me..
