Back during my college years (many moons ago), there was a book called "Closing of the American Mind" that argued the opposite POV. The author claimed our colleges were failing to do their jobs (and likewise failing our culture) because they were emphasizing creativity rather than giving students a solid foundation of knowledge. Round and round we go.... :) I find it a little amusing to hear this speech.
