Education is undermining creativity

Sir Ken Robinson gives a speech on education undermining creativity (and our future). Video of speech here.

“Sir Ken Robinson is author of Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative, and a leading expert on innovation and human resources. In this talk, he makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it.”

Pretty interesting speech. I first saw the link to it over at Binary Bonsai.

I find it a little amusing to hear this speech. Back during my college years (many moons ago), there was a book called “Closing of the American Mind” that argued the opposite POV. The author claimed our colleges were failing to do their jobs (and likewise failing our culture) because they were emphasizing creativity rather than giving students a solid foundation of knowledge.

Round and round we go…. :)

It could just be a matter that our school systems are failing in both areas, both in knowledge and creativity. ;)
