I’ve been using Skype a bit more the past few days, so I decided I’d give SkypeIn a try. I signed up for 3 months service. My account showed my SkypeIn number as active within 10 minutes. Pretty neat.
Or rather, it would be neat if it worked. Last night, I tried calling my SkypeIn number via my cellphone. It worked. Yay. Then I tried calling it from our landline. No dice. “To call this number, you must first dial a 1 or 0.” No problem. I try the number with the 1 and area code. “We’re sorry - this number is out of order or is no longer in service.”
I called the number again from my cell, and it worked fine. Hmmm…
Today when I call from our landline, my cell, or a friend’s cell, I get this: “The number you dialed is not a working number. Please check the number and dial again.”
When I signed up for my SkypeIn number, I got it in the same area code that I live in. So, the cell phones, and the landline I’ve tried, and the SkypeIn number, all share the same area code. So what gives?
I submitted a support ticket to Skype, but I’ve not received anything yet. It’s not a huge deal, since they offer refunds for up to 30 days after your purchase. Honestly, though, I don’t want a refund. I just want it to work.
I’ll post about any updates that come about.

I am getting the same symptom but I do not think this is Skype related.
I have a cellphone now with T-mobile and the number can be called from any cellphone. When I try calling from a land line I get the same message.
“The number you’re dialing is not a working number…” then in Spanish and then the code 3FL02GN
Sometimes redialing lets me get through. I don’t know what the reason for this is but Ive seen it on other peoples phones with other carriers as well. I am still trying to get this mystery resolved - so far swapping the SIM card did not help.
